Mom Wellness, Unfiltered

Real wellness for real moms – no guilt, no filters.

One of the first things any social media expert or business coach will tell you is to “NICHE DOWN”. So throughout my time on social media, I’ve tried focusing on menopause, nutrition for mental health, and balanced eating.  I immersed myself in books, podcasts, and scientific articles to study those topics so I could learn how best to help my audience. I have also found myself studying things like nutrition for postpartum, and health habits to fight thyroid cancer, as I have needed that information for myself. What I’ve learned in all my studies may or may not surprise you.

Its not rocket science…🚀

We as a society (and women especially) are so good at overcomplicating things. But our health and wellness? Yeah, it shouldn’t be that complicated. What I have found is that whether you’re trying to support your aging body, improve your mental health, or support your healing body post-surgery, the principles are the same. While there definitely are many aspects to a person’s health, and individual goals change the nitty-gritty details, I think we can simplify it down to 5 things:

THE BIG 5:

  1. Mindfulness
  2. Movement
  3. Adding Nutrients
  4. Balancing Nutrients
  5. Quality Resting

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is where habit meets intention. No matter your stage of life, there is power in being able to tune in to your body’s natural signals. The body is designed to communicate things like hunger and stress through hormones, in order to support survival and balance. However, these signals can easily be confused. With practice and intention, you can better tune in to your body’s needs, and better support it through any stage of life.

Movement

MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE. I will scream it from the rooftops. Trying to “age gracefully”? Exercise. Wanting to better balance your blood glucose levels? Exercise. Trying to improve your energy? Exercise. Need to decrease stress? Exercise. Do you see a pattern? One of my favorite things about movement is that it doesn’t have to be perfect for you to see progress or the benefits.

Adding Nutrients

So much of what diet culture has led us to believe is that in order to “get fit” or “lose weight”, you have to remove things from your life. But what if we focused more on simply getting in a little more of the good stuff first? Like increasing your fiber intake one fruit or vegetable at a time. This can lower your risk for disease, no matter the stage of life you are in!

Balancing Nutrients

Macronutrients consist of proteins, carbs, and fats. We’ve all heard of them, and are probably scared of some of them. But each nutrient has its purpose. For example–fats help our body to absorb nutrients. Without them, there are certain vitamins our body wouldn’t even utilize. When we balance our meals with each macronutrient, we are best able to support our body’s needs.

Side note: I think “macro counting” can be both harmful and helpful. I’ll give you my full shpill in a future post–promise.

Quality Resting

Intentional rest is essential for your physical and emotional well-being. We have all seen the toll a bad night of “rest” can have on us. But I’m not just talking about getting a full 7-8 hours of sleep each night. I ALWAYS recommend taking one intentional rest day a week. Not just skipping a workout, but taking that time to get a little extra sleep, your favorite form of self-care, or some extra stretching. Quality rest allows your body and mind to reset and rebuild so you can come back stronger the next day!

You’re not alone..

Seems simple enough, right? Mmm, maybe not. I’ve been reminded, as I’ve worked as a nutrition coach and talked with those around me, how few people have been taught these skills. It isn’t rocket science, but consistency is easier when you’re not trying to figure it all out alone.

That’s why I am so excited to offer a Personalized Wellness Kickstarter Plan. This plan is all about helping you feel confident as you continue, or begin, your wellness journey. If you’re looking for some extra support without the commitment of a full-time trainer, this is perfect for you!
